Alpe d'Huez Apres Ski Report: 17th January 2009

First things first, I know how much you have all been anticipating the result of the L'equipe d'anglais versus ESF football match... the English stormed to a convincing 8-5 victory! Get in there boys!

It's been another relatively quiet week on the après scene, with the whole resort still recovering from New Year week, the bars have been quieter which has also meant the mountain has been quieter; which has led to a fantastic week of skiing and snowboarding with no queues for the lifts!.... Bliss!

The week has seen Albenaza - the much coveted band from Devon, take their express Alps tour into Alpe D'huez to a rapturous reception. Their mix of covers, their own tunes, beat boxing and their superb version of Jurassic 5's Concrete Schoolyard took the watching public by storm.

They played on Tuesday in Smithy's for the Natives Seasonnaire Show Love Party before playing in O'Sharkey's on Wednesday, The Underground Thursday and Lily's on Friday. By the end of the week they had quite a following, and we look forward to welcoming them back next year (if they haven't been signed!).

Tuesday also saw The most anticipated band in Alpe D'huez (Still Nameless!) play a fantastic gig in Sphere. They also have a gig in Smithy's a week on Sunday, so that will definitely be one to look out for. Tuesday also saw seasoned wine expert Zippy and the staff at Lounge 21 held their weekly Wine Tasting session in the cosy surroundings of the resorts most relaxed and laid back venue. It's been a week of music and bands this week, with old time legends Torchey Harper playing in The Underground on Wednesday too.

Thursday saw the staff from Smithy's stand at the bottom of the DMC lift with a huge banner and a megaphone and making complete fools of themselves to the amusement of the public promoting Dr.Bruce's double gig – après at 5.30pm followed by an evening gig at 11pm. With pints going at 3.50euros during the gig the bar was packed with lager hungry punters!

Friday was Lounge 21's Dylan's 27th birthday, Happy birthday Dyls! He celebrated in O'Bar with their now extremely popular 2 for 1 cocktails night before partying it up in Igloo with the much anticipated return to the decks of DJ Clown from Bodmin blasting out his famous collection of Drum and Bass tunes to the adoring masses.

Next week see's DMC scratch turn tabling DJ Champion DJ Netick play in Smithy's on Tuesday while John, Jez and Morse have another gig in Sphere on Wednesday. El is back in Sharkey's throughout the week playing après ski, Bluefunkt return to Smithy's on Thursday, while the Swedish bar down at the Petit Prince is offering a range of traditional Swedish cocktails on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The season's now officially in full swing, the sun is shining, and Alpe D'huez is pumping. Don't survive the nightmare, live the dream people!!!
