Alpe d'Huez Apres Ski Report: 15th April 2009

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Alpe d'Huez Editor Updated

Well then boys and girls…there are only three more après ski reports left until it's time for most of us to up and leave these beautiful surroundings and head for spring time in England (unfortunately that probably involves rain, rain and more rain).

So then, let's start where we left off, straight after the carnage that was BUSC…after a day or two tucked up in bed recovering from hangovers (that's us staff by the way, not the students!) it was business as usual for the bars of Alpe D'Huez.

Sunday night saw Still Nameless fill Smithy's with some of John, Jez and Morse's classic rock n'roll! Back to being a sweat pit, the bar was packed and the atmosphere amazing. What a way to welcome back everyone in to the bar who was unable to squeeze past the hundreds of drunken students the week before…

Monday's bar crawl was taken over by 150 Danish party animals. So much for a post-student week quiet night! They were entertained by DJ Sam in Smithy's and Gaz & Hands down at the Underground. The only phrase I heard all night from very stern faces staring at me over the bar was ‘A BIG BEER'! You certainly can't fault the Scandies for their drinking prowess!

Tuesday and Wednesday evenings were dominated by the Champions League, with holiday makers and seasonnaires alike cramming full the bars in support of Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal… Smithy's and O'Sharkey's were particularly rammed. Tuesday was also Pacific bar's closing party, with a drum n' bass set from bar manager and legendary resort DJ DJ DKAT.

Those that stayed in Smithy's on Wednesday after the football were treated to a DJ Northey dance megamix from the 80's which went down a storm! Still Nameless continued their tour of Alpe D'Huez by performing in Sphere bar too…the home of the legendary Scottish John!

Bluekunkt played their last gig of the winter in Smithy's on Thursday evening… a lot of those watching would have made their way up to Smithy's rather tanked up following O'Bar's ‘2 for 1' cocktail night. There's something about the end of the season that makes everyone (and especially seasonnaires) panic that it's all coming to an end and make a special effort to get doubly drunk. As a result O' Bar willingly obliged!

Nightclub Les Caves got DJ Northey to make the short walk down from Smithy's to play a late night garage set also on Thursday.

Friday was a quiet night, everyone was obviously preparing themselves for the last ever Smithy's big breakfast on Saturday… the place was rammed…amazing how people away from home with such fine cuisine all around them will queue up early in the morning just for a fry-up. Brilliant…

Not long left now, so if you don't get up the mountain as the snow is slowly disappearing (my excuse anyway!) get yourself to the outdoor pool, have an ice-skate at the ince-rink, or go and watch theSmithy'sboys defend their Huez league football title at the Palais des Sport on Saturday 18th against the French team Olympique Huez!

Back next week for more!
