Alpe d'Huez Apres Ski Report:1st February 2009

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Alpe d'Huez Editor Updated

First of all I would like to apologise for the delay in posting this week's report. I know you have all been sat in front of your computers in eager anticipation as to what crazy things have been happening in the Alpe of Huez, but your poor après-ski reporter has been a little poorly. Still, I'm back and fighting fit now, so let's get down to business...

500 Scandies piled into resort last Saturday, which signalled the beginning of an epic week on the après scene. On Sunday they all started off their week in the Grotte du Yeti dutch bar for a few flugels and drinking games, before single handily turning Smithy's from quiet to rammed in approximately 3 and a half minutes! The windows steamed up, the ‘big beers' started getting poured by the bucket load, and the end result was a fantastic night at the hands of Still Namesless, the amazing local band making their Smithy's debut, and to rapturous applause...

No times to rest thought, as those slightly hung-over heads got themselves up early (or if you didn't you seriously missed out!) to go on the mountain...What amazing fresh powder and what a day! So with everyone already buzzing, après ski at Sphere bar really took off, with an outside acoustic session led by John and Jez accompanying the happy hour beers to fantastic success! The weekly bar crawl was as lively as ever... Ell in Sharkey's and DJ Sam in Smithy's the highlights.

Tuesday was all about the Underground and specifically Gaz and Hands with their guitars. Those two are brilliant! And I still haven't walked into that place this season without doing a slammer...! One day...one day! Anyone in there that night will have woken up on Wednesday slightly sore but with a big grin, as it was a fantastic night! Cheers boys!

L'Etalon had a big night on Wednesday serving a vast amount of their fantastic array of rum's... and it was time to travel back two decades in Smithy's for an 80's night... Queen...Boy George and the like were a huge success to the slightly older community, and for the rest of us we just enjoyed seeing them take a happy trip back to their 20's!

Thursday welcomed O'Bar and their amazing 2 for 1 on cocktails...What a great place to start your night, lovely bar, with lovely Mojito's. Bliss! Torchey Harbour then played their consistently brilliant weekly gig in the Underground, with Dr.Buce playing two gigs in Smithy's for après ski at 5.30pm before a late night show at 11pm. 2 for the price of 1 for the many Dr.Bruce fans!

Finally Friday saw MC King Comport end the Danes week in Smithy's with some blinding tunes alongside sidekick DJ Northey. Sphere put on a great eveing too, with the famous Toss the Boss game getting staff and punters alike rather tipsy. Before I get complaints for crude sexual references, the game involves the client tossing dice against the barman, if they get a higher number, he gets a free drink, and vise-versa. Oh the joys of drinking games! Especially for free drinks!...

Next (well now this!) week see's Bluefunkt return in Smithy's on Thursday, which also has Still Nameless back on Sunday, Sphere has après ski music with Stevie B on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and if you read this in time you can see Still Namesless play there THIS EVENING from 11pm (Sunday!)
Keep the apres going, we're scarily into February now so remember to party like it's 19...I mean 2009! Adios!
