Where to watch the Champions League quarter finals in Alpe d'Huez

Can Manchester City conquer Paris St German?

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Rob Wood, Alpe d'Huez Reporter Updated

The UEFA Champions League enters the quarter final stage, with sole English survivors Manchester City drawn against runaway French Ligue1 Champions Paris St German. City have the advantage of the first taking place in Paris on Wednesday 6th April with the return leg back at the Etihad Stadium 6 days later on Tuesday on 12th April.

ITS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER FINAL TIME……

The remaining ties have drawn German giants Bayern Munich with Portuguese outfit Benfica, while tournament favourites Barcelona are up against fellow Spaniards Atletico Madrid and finally Wolfsburg of Germany are up against 10 times champions Real Madrid.

Will anybody be able to stop the majestic Barcelona from lifting the title for a 6th time, to do so you will have to stop Messi, Neymar and Suarez – no easy feat when you consider they have scored an impressive 103 goals between them this season.

Meanwhile in Europe’s second tier tournament, the Europa League, English sole survivors Liverpool (who beat Manchester United in the last round) take on the German big guns of Borussia Dortmund, a tie that sees Jurgen Klopp take his new Liverpool team to Dortmund to take on the team where he enjoyed such widespread success. As with Manchester City, Liverpool have the advantage of the first leg being away from home, with the all important return leg taking place at Anfield a week later.

There's plenty of choices where to watch the games here in resort – down in the old town O’Bar and L’Indiana are always well worth a visit, both a run by ex-pats and show all the action with English commentary.

A favourite with many holidaymakers and seasonnaires alike in the middle of town is Smithys Tavern (above the igloo nightclub) – 2 large TVs, English commentary all in high definition – and always with great offers on jugs of beer, a great atmosphere is guaranteed.

Whilst up in the Main Street (Avenue Les Jeux) English commentary can be found in both Sphere Bar (right at the top of the street) and O’Sharkeys (opposite the ice rink), but if you fancy watching the games with a more Gallic feel then head for the Freeride Bar, which will no doubt be full of PSG fans for the games against Manchester City.

Meanwhile over in Les Bergers French commentary can be found at both Chez Leo and at the Tiger Bar.

Good luck to Manchester City and Liverpool, who both face tough tests if they are to progress through to the semi-final stages of the Champions League and Europa League respectively.
