featured in Activity reviews Author Rob Wood, Alpe d'Huez Reporter Updated

We have all been on the slopes when we have been passed by the mountain rescue guys flying around on the their top of the range skidoos and have all thought how cool and great fun it looks, well why not give it a whirl when you are here in Alpe d’Huez?

Skidoos (or snowmobiles) are incredibly good fun and easily handled even by a complete novice. Espace Motoneige, located on the slopes just behind the Les Bergers Commercial Centre (right next to the Marmottes1 lift) have a fleet of top of the range Yamaha Skidoos.

These Yamaha Skidoos are truly top of the range machines and there is a whole range of excursions and packages to suit all budgets and tastes, with excitement and adrenaline guaranteed.

During the day between 1pm and 4.30pm you can have a quick whirl around the luge area situated next to slopes of the bottom section of the DMC. 10 minutes costs 20€ whilst a 20 minute thrash will cost you 35€.

Alternatively later in the day you can go for a longer “skidoo safari.” “Packs Decouverte” offers you a 15 minute session on the luge area of the DMC followed by a hour long trip around the lower slopes of Alpe d’Huez, with prices starting from 120€, these tours depart at 5.30pm every day.

If you fancy a truly magical moonlight night time trip on a skidoo then why not try the “Rando Evasion” trip, departing at 5.30/6.45/8 and 9.15pm and lasting for an hour. This really is great fun for all the family and will take you at high speed around the lower slopes of Alpe d’Huez. Costs for this option range between 40€ and 130€, depending on whether you go as a passenger or pilot your own skidoo.

For the ultimate skidoo and dining experience why not try the “Night Emotion” trip which gives you both the excitement of the skidoo and also the chance to dine at one of the mountain restaurants at night. Prices for this option start at 170€.

Booking is required for all of the trips and you need to arrive at Les Bergers 15 minutes before the start of your excursion. You will receive a full safety briefing and all the necessary instruction you need to get going. You will need to bring googles or glasses, gloves, boots and warm clothes. Helmets are supplied for you.

All the guides and instructors are fully qualified and registered with the SNPQM (Syndicat National Professional Quad Motoneige) the French Governing body for Skidoos.

Further information and reservations get in touch with Espace Motoneige.
