Play giant chess in Alpe d'Huez

Channel your inner chess champion

featured in Activity reviews Author Rob Wood, Alpe d'Huez Reporter Updated

If you fancy testing the grey matter a little bit when you are here in Alpe d’Huez or simply fancy yourself as the next Garry Kasparov, then get yourself along to the Palais des sports et des Congres (the leisure centre) and play a BIG game of chess.

In the foyer area of the leisure centre you will find an oversize chess game and it's a really cool way to spend an hour or so away from the slopes.

It's free and there's no need to book, just get yourself along and give it a go. It gives a whole new dimension to playing this most noble of games when you have to walk around the board to get a full perspective, rather than just look across a table.

So why not brush up on your Kings Gambit, Sicilian Defense or Queens Gambit at the leisure centre. It's right next to the bar as well.
