Alpe d'Huez Apres Ski Report: 14th February 2009

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Alpe d'Huez Editor Updated

First of all, get your red roses and red wine out, find yourself a girlfriend and buy her some chocolates...it's VALENTINE'S DAY! (which is why I will be on my own watching DVD's with my flatmate ce soir...Oh well)

In 3 seasons I think this has been the most snow I have ever seen. It just won't stop falling! And when there's a white out everyday – high winds, and un-skiable conditions, there's only one thing to do.... P.A.R.T.Y!!! It's the perfect excuse!

John, Jez and Morse, AKA Still Nameless kicked off the week in style in Smithy's on Sunday... they are well known and loved it resort so brought their cult following along with them, and they certainly weren't disappointed...cracking night lads!

Monday saw a fancy dress ‘Pirate' night in the Underground... a bar in the Alps, snow falling, everyone dressed as...pirates! Hilarious! Busty was looking particularly fetching – Johnny Depp eat your heart out! This was of course part of the weekly international bar crawl frenzy – due to the bad weather this week was busier than most, with nightclub Igloo reaping the rewards with a packed dance floor until the early hours of the morning.

Tuesday was après ski live music day at Sphere Bar, with Still Nameless playing a few acoustic songs to those recovering from a tough day on the slopes (having just about recovered from their rather ‘heavy' gig at Smithy's!!!). Gaz and Hands were doing the same après scene down at the Underground, while Smithy's had their ‘Jagermeister' night. Lots of people. Music. Cheap Jager...... Carnage!

DJ Northey and MC KING Comport were smashing out the 80's tunes in Smithy's on Wednesday, and Zoo Bar were entertaining the girls with a ladies night with male strippers. No guys allowed in, which meant they were full of girls, and all the other bars in resort full of guys. Not a good combination if you're going out on the pull.

O'Sharkey's had a karaoke night, with Big Ant leading the way on the mic, along with Stevie G from Captain Sandwich... Interesting!

Thursday brought more snow, and more fun. It was buy one get one free in O Bar, and the more weeks that go by, Thursday nights down there get more and more popular. Only problem is in this weather it's a long and chilly walk home after 8 Mojitos. If you've ever seen the film Touching the Void it felt a little like that... (but with a 10 minute walk home and not a 5 day escape venture in arctic conditions. Still... similarities! ) After that it was DJ Northey banging out the drum and bass in Les Caves nightclub – opposite the Igloo... it was a french nightclub taken over by English seasonnaires as they swarmed the place to support their favourite British DJ in resort...

To finish off the week, DJ Kapich played some retro classic numbers in the Smithy's Tavern of Dreams, Bar Manager Andy was dancing on the bar which was a rather funny sight to those in for a quiet drink! Sphere had a Babyfoot (table football) tournament, with Scottish John taking the prize for 1st place. I'm sure he only arranged it because he knew I would be working and thus unable to participate. Next time Johno...next time...

Next week Smithy's are putting on a huge mid-season blue party on Tuesday for those seasonnaires missing Mummy's cooking... and also a ‘Pimp my body' night on Wednesday in association with Just in Music. The Underground have a beach party on Thursday, and Sphere have live après music on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with Jez. Have a great week boys and girls, let's all do the robot, and I'll be speaking to you this time next week. Oh how I love Alpe D'Huez!

Love, Peace and hair grease xxx
