Tour de France 2018 preparations heat up

Big guns visit Alpe d'Huez ahead of the July showdown

As the Tour de France fast approaches, this week has seen a flurry of cycling action in resort.

On Monday, Russian based world tour team Katusha Alpecin took the opportunity to recce the famous 21 bend climb to resort, led by Russian rider Ilnur Zakarin and Ian Boswell of the USA. Whilst Wednesday saw the big guns of Team Sky on the hill, led by recent Giro d’Italia winner and current holder of all three Grand Tours, Chris Froome, alongside the winner of last week’s Criterium du Dauphine Geraint Thomas and “super-domestiques” Wout Poels and Micheal Kwiatowski.

Chambery based AG2R La Mondiale are also continuing their preparations and are expected here in resort sometime this week led by French superstar Romain Bardet. The 12th stage of the Tour de France will depart from Les Arcs and comes through Les Arcs on July 19th, en route from Bourg-Saint-Maurice, to tackle the famous 21 bend hill climb.
