Getting Around Guide to Alpe d'Huez

Top tips on getting around when you're in resort

featured in Buses Updated

Getting around Alpe d’Huez couldn’t be simpler with four bus routes running during the day and one running at night. These services are free and run throughout the ski-season. Generally being ‘circular’ in their operation it really doesn’t matter which way you get on the bus, as eventually it will get to the stop you want!

Buses

The green ‘Circuit Pomme’ (Apple Bus) runs from Huez (the village just below Alpe d'Huez) right through town up to the DMC lift centre and back down to Huez village. The red ‘Circuit Fraise’ (Strawberry bus) runs in a loop and serves the L’Eclose area of town. The blue ‘Circuit Myrtille’ (Blueberry Bus) runs in a loop pretty much around the central area. The yellow ‘Circuit Citron’ (Lemon Bus) generally serves the Quartier Les Bergers (the altiport area) L’Eclose area and the DMC/Cognet area.

Generally, if your destination is in the central area of town then any of the routes will serve your purpose or at least get you closer to your destination. On the whole the free bus shuttles start at around 08:30 and run until 18:00.

After 18:00 a single bus system operates, the ‘Circuit Nocturne’ (Night Circuit), this runs pretty much in a loop around town until around 22:00. The bus stops for these shuttles are dotted all over town, and are never too far apart and are clearly marked, often with a ‘bus shelter’ in the case of poor weather.

Exact timetables for the shuttles are readily available in the resort, but the timetables should be used as more a guide than a precise timetable. The central area, being fairly compact, is easily navigated on foot.

Getting to Oz and Vaujany

During the day the easiest way to get from Alpe d’Huez to Oz or Vaujany is to snap on your skis and hit the slopes. All the lifts serving these towns have a clearly indicated “last return lift” time shown, so be aware of this.

You can also get around by bus, the Transisere 3010 service run from Vaujany, via Oz and Allemont, to Bourg d’Oisans. The service operates 7 days a week, at regular intervals, between 08:00 and 20:00 hours. From Bourg d’Oisans the Transisere 3020 service runs up to Alpe d’Huez between 07:25 and 19:55 hours.

There are several taxi companies serving the area including Agence S Chalvin Taxis’, Allo Taxi Saccucci, Taxi Des 6 Vallee’s, Taxis Sert Marc, Taxi D’Oz and AlpTaxi Esposito.

Getting to Les Deux Alpes

Situated about 1 hour (35km) to the south of Alpe d’Huez, Les Deux Alpes is another hugely popular ski resort. Most of the Alpe d’Huez lift passes include the odd day skiing in Les Deux Alpes. The easiest way to get there and back is by bus. The 3020 service runs from Alpe d’Huez to Bourg d’Oisans 7 days a week, generally at regular intervals, between 08:00 and 18:00 hours. From Bourg d’Oisans you can catch the 3030 service to Les Deux Alpes, again generally running between 08:00 and 18:00 hours. There are several taxi companies serving the area including Agence S Chalvin Taxis’, Allo Taxi Saccucci, Taxi Des 6 Vallee’s, Taxis Sert Marc, Taxi D’Oz and AlpTaxi Esposito.

By road Vaujany and Oz are around 45/60 minutes away (20-25km) via Bourg d’Oisans and Allemont (D525). To get to Les Deux Alpes you need to go back down to the bottom of the 21 bends, turn left and from here it's clearly sign posted.
