What a start to the season! After four solid days of snow falling there was a fresh 260cm on the upper slopes and a very high avalanche risk. Even the snow ploughs almost gave up the fight! We got to the stage where the police weren’t letting anyone in or out of resort without winter tyres and chains. Speaking with locals, they find it hard to remember when this much snow fell at the start of the season! But yesterday the skies cleared and revealed one of the most stunning blue bird days of riding I have ever experienced. Thank you snow gods! Current conditions.. its snowing!
A Snowy End to November: 28 November 2012

It's been dumping down in Alpe d'Huez for the past 24 hours and the snow is still continuing to fall today. The white stuff started coming down yesterday afternoon and overnight we must have had around 30cm fall in resort. With another 20cm expected over the course of today, we're all set to get out on the mountain as soon as possible - only a week to go until the season begins for real!
Winter returns: 19th March 2012

The first real snow in over a month here in the Oisans has left both Alpe d'Huez and 2Alpes with a good covering on the pistes and enough to freshen up the off piste as well.
Snow at resort level is a bit wet, but low temperatures at altitude overnight mean powder higher up. Another couple of falls like that should see great conditions in both resorts right through to the end of the season. For the time being this latest top up is great news for anyone heading out this week.
It's snowing in Alpe d'Huez!: 20th January 2012

We had plenty of snow in the first few weeks of the season, followed by wall to wall sunshine for over a week. This gave us the chance to take advantage of the fabulous conditions (and the seriously cold temperatures ensured everything stayed in peak condition). And now, the snow is back again to top up those powder levels!
The webcam still shows Alpe d'Huez this afternoon. The resort pistes in the background are barely visible, thanks to the inclement weather.
Snowfall is predicted to continue into the weekend with possible brighter spells next week. Hurrah!
It's dumping down, again!: 6th January 2012

We've had mixed conditions during the week - some sun, some snow. Yesterday, however, it started bucketing down, once again. We are not talking light snowfall, we are talking serious quantities.
In 2 Alpes 30cm plus fell at resort level yesterday and up to a metre has since been reported at 2000m. High winds led to the closure of the lifts.
The storms worsened overnight leaving many homes without power. An avalanche closed the main road between Grenoble, Bourg d'OIsans and the resorts of Alpe d'Huez and 2Alpes yesterday evening, causing traffic jams kilometres log in both directions while emergency teams worked to clear the snow.
Large parts of the ski area at both Alpe d'Huez and 2Alpes are unlikely to open this morning as pisteurs lay charges to bring down controlled avalanches and make pistes safe and skiable - bombing in Alpe d'Huez started at 7am and is likely to continue during the day.
On the plus side, our snow reporter suspects there is currently more snow up the mountain than you have ever seen! Check out her latest report here. And the good news is the weather is set to clear around midday today. Just in time for the weekend!
