Villard Reculas Redevelopment

The latest on the vast redevelopments happening in VIllard Reculas

featured in News & reviews Author Nicole Afford, Alpe d'Huez Reporter Updated

In December 2014, Villard Reculas announced the first stage of its redevelopment having been completed since it began reconstruction in May 2014. Having just been reopened in its new entirety the public and skiers many who have travelled from Alpe D’Heuz Grand Domaine ski area, are enjoying the use of free semi-underground parking, new shops, cafés and enhanced space and safety for the local community.

The aim of the project is to enable the area to be in keeping with its traditional aesthetics but improve the layout of the area for further accessibility. There is due to be a ticket office right beside the slope so skiers can ski directly to the office from the slope. This will make for a more comfortable and easy visit into Villard Reculas. The move of the ticket office has come as welcome news to the tourist office meaning that they will be able to expand and take over the whole office that currently holds ticket admissions and tourist information.

The redevelopment is costing Villard Reculas €2.4 million but one that is well worth it due to the safety of the local community and skiers who travel across from the Alpe D’Heuz Ski Domaine. Before the renovation, the shops opened directly onto the road whereas there is now a raised platform moved away from the road. This has created an open area free for children to play allowing peace of mind for parents. The area currently holds a Casino, Bars, Cafes, Ski Rentals (Intersport & Sport 2000), ESF Office, La Cabane Restaurant and Les Granges Residential Entrance.

These developments continue to take place including a building adjacent to the local square and a less steep beginners slope. Over the following months, there is still set to be further changes that can only improve your visit to the Villard Reculas.
