Le Roi Ladre

As with all the restaurants of the old town this place has an abundance of character, typical mountain architecture and great food. Small in size and hugely popular (so definitely book in advance) the pizzas here are truly fantastic and regarded by many as the best in Alpe d’Huez. The pizzas range from 9.80€ up to 15.80€ for all the toppings, and each of the pizzas is named after one of the pistes here in Alpe d’Huez – the Sarenne, the Tunnel, you get the picture! In addition to great pizzas, the steaks here are really good and the local potato based mountain dish of Tartiflette is always a hit.

Le Genepi

Virtually next door to the Le Roi Ladre this is another small restaurant that is always hugely popular. Specialising in local mountain favourites such as raclette, fondue and Tartiflette and always with a great plat du jour. Again it's small in size but big in character this typically French alpine restaurant is always a favourite with locals and tourists alike.

Au Puits des Saveurs

Directly opposite the Genepi and Roi Ladre, these three form a little triangle of fantastic restaurants. With a huge log fire always burning a warm welcome is guaranteed. They have a great menu with starters from 7.50€ up to a superb fillet steak at 39€ and a top notch raclette, there really is something for everyone. It's another fantastic small restaurant that is full of character and is high on quality.

Restaurant XV

Under new management this year and already getting a great reputation, this is another small and really popular restaurant, with starters from 7.50€ up to a fillet steak at 32€. My personal favourite here is the salmon fillet at 17€. Using great fresh local produce, chef Didier, is top notch and his surf and turf risotto is always a favourite.

This is another restaurant under new management, specialising in true mountain fare including raclette and tartiflette at around 23€. Starters are priced from 8.50€ and steaks from 14€. This is another of the smaller more intimate restaurants in the old town. It's fairly reasonably priced and offers good quality food in a typically alpine atmosphere.

Specialising in wood cooked meats, La Cremaillere a great restaurant with a really good menu. With starters from 8.50€ and mountain special main courses at around 26€ (fondues, raclettes and tartiflette) – but it really is the wood cooked meats here that get the mouth watering.
