Snow problem landing in Alpe d'Huez Altiport

Snow & ice on the runway? The pilots here take it all in their stride..

At some point in time we have all no doubt been subject to a flight delay due to a tiny bit of ice on the runway, well fear not, that isn't the case here in Alpe d’Huez.

The Altiport Henri Giraud located near the Les Bergers Commercial Centre, regularly sees both helicopters and small planes taking off and landing all year round, with snow never causing a delay!

Indeed the end of the runway forms the tunnel at the beginning of the “scare chair” over to Auris en Oisan, and the 6th tee to the local 9 hole golf course is situated right next to the control tower – so whilst teeing off, you may get to watch a plane take off as well!

Set at an altitude of 1,812 metres, the runway is only 448 metres long and has the airport “reference” of AHZ.

Pleasure flights are available from the Altiport by both helicopter and small plane. With helicopters providing scenic flights, private airport transfers (very David & Victoria Beckham!) and also transfers over to Les Deux Alpes for a change in ski scenery.

The Altiport and runway is very James Bond “Goldeneye”…… Take a look at the video and see what you think!
