featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Alpe d'Huez Editor Updated

Since the partial collapse and ongoing closure of the Tunnel du Chambon, anyone heading to Alpe d'Huez for the Tour de France from Briançon or Italy will have to take an alternative road but if you come from the direction of Grenoble the road will be open.

Everyone coming to watch the event must reach the resort before 20:00 on the 24th of July.

The road to access Alpe d’Huez will be closed from the day before at 20:00 until the 26th July at 10:00.

The two lifts from Oz en Oisans (l'Alpette & Poutran) will be in operation, so you have the option of parking over there and heading up into Alpe d'Huez from there. Lifts run from 09:00 to 17:30 and you can find ticket prices here

Access to Oz is possible before 11:30 - The road is closed on the 25th at Rochetaillée crossing (Grenoble-Bourg d'Oisans road) from 11:30 to 16:15.

Wednesday 22nd, Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th -

The road will be closed from Le Bourg d’Oisans to Alpe d’Huez from 10pm until 6.00am Wednesday and Thursday and until 7.00am on Friday 24th. Please note - On Thursday 23rd it will be closed from 8pm

Saturday 25th July -

  • At 7am the road will be closed from Alpe d’Huez to Bourg d’Oisans
  • At 10am the road will be closed in both directions
  • Re-opening of the road at 9pm in both directions

Sunday 26th July - The road will be closed from 8am to 12pm in both directions.

Campervans are welcome to park in the resort a few days before the Tour de France
