Alpe d'Huez has come out on top as the best Ski Resort in Europe, in an announcement made on Friday afternoon.

The results, which were announced late Friday afternoon (16th December), saw Alpe d’Huez take the crown ahead of La Plagne in second and Montgenèvre in third. In fact, French resorts accounted for 6 of the top 14 places – quite an achievement.

Val Thorens, winner of the 2014/2015/2016 crown, was this year temporarily withdrawn from the competition and instead presented a special Honor Award in recognition of its previous achievements and unerring public popularity. VT will return again next year to compete for the title.

With winners being selected by public vote rather than officials, the Awards are held in high regard. In fact, just placing on the winners’ list is a huge accolade and great publicity for the participating areas.

The Best Ski Resort in Europe Awards 2017 winners’ list is as follows:

1. Alpe d'Huez
