The much anticipated route for the 100th edition of The Tour de France has been announced, and as expected Alpe d'Huez is set to host a stage finish. Rumours had been rife that Alpe d'Huez would feature in the 2013 Tour but now it is official - the Tour is coming on the 18th of July 2013, not once - but twice!

The 2013 Tour de France is set to be a mountainous one and the 18th stage from Gap to Alpe d'Huez will certainly be that. Current Tour champion Bradley Wiggins and the other riders face a tough stage with 168km of riding and will have to climb the iconic 21 switchbacks of l'Alpe d'Huez twice.

Alpe d'Huez has been climbed twice in the same Tour de France previously, but never in the same day.

Here's some handy tips for coming to see Le Tour:

  • The road between Bourg d’Oisans and Alpe d’Huez will be closed on the 18th of July from 9am until 8pm.
  • The best places to watch the race are at the finish line at the top of the resort (but be warned it will be very crowded.)
  • Otherwise, if you stay along the road of the 21 bends near the top you can get a good view.
  • The lifts (Télévillage, Poutran, DMC) will be open from 8am until 7pm just for this day.
